Thread: Massively peed off

  1. #1

    Default Massively peed off

Put a bid on a set of books (The Twilight series) 2 weeks ago - been patiently waiting for the auction to end. It ended on Friday with me as the winning bidder. Contacted the seller to confirm payment details - no reply until today, when she tells me that she put the auction on ages ago and forgot about it and that the books are now not available.

    Really peed off

Well that is bad. Why put an auction up and then forget about it.

That is why I am not keen on the "run until sold option", it worries me that people might do that with them. Well not worry........ exactly, just a little concerned.

I would not be a happy bunny though if I was you either.

    Oh, how sad.

I've occasionally had to let down a buyer because I've actually lost a book... my stock system's pretty good, but the human driving it is fallible. I always feel terrible, and if I get a neg' I take it on the chin. What I haven't done yet is just forgotten I'm selling somewhere! Surely if one decides to stop using a site, one shuts down one's sales? This dump and run (or possibly just wander off absent-mindedly) thing is really a problem here. Are we going to have to prod sellers to check that items really exist, even before we bid now?

Another case for getting rid of dead wood on Ebid.
I know there have been enough threads on this, and Ebid will never remove them as it looks good for the figures, but..........IMO, it looks worse (long term) if this sort of thing happens a lot.
Cmon Ebid - what is more important? Having 1 1/2 million live listings, or 2 1/2 million listings which include 1 million dead wood?
(dont know the figures obviously - just hazarding a guess)

I actually purchased something from here at the weekend - but I felt it necessary to email the seller first to find out if they were still around.

That doesnt say a lot for my confidence in the site at the moment

    I would neg them to.

After all, we get an email to tell us when an item has a bid. They must have known two weeks ago that they did not have it. They could have told you long before now.

    That is very bad trading.

Word of mouth is so important in online circles - I think real harm is done by having a significant number of effectively dead listings. I'd much rather have a smaller, but vibrant selling environment.
