However, even with tracking it could be difficult to find out what has happened if there is a delay - the Royal Mail signed for service generally tracks items until they leave the UK, then it is a matter of contacting the Inidan postal service to find out from them where your item is. If the sale is for a low value item, best approach might be to advise your custoimer that progress through the postal system is outside your control and could be subject to some delays at the Indian equivalent of Customs. If it is a high value item, it might be worth considering the Royal Mail express airmail service which should get priority going through the system but which costs more.
Makes sense. I never sold to India. From US to overseas, there is always the problem of shipping item cheap (airmail international) or upgrading so that insurance/confirmation can be added. Makes a difference of $25+ for the package in some cases, and most buyers/sellers will not do that unless the item is very expensive. Rather than skip selling overseas, I take the risk, ship it cheaper, and just know that if it gets lost, it is on my dime.

As I said earlier the item is only worth a few £s so I will send it normal mail.

I will advise the buyer of the possible delays at customs.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences.

Looks like the buyer has decided not to pay as I have not heard from them.
