Lucky You by Carl Hiaasen. Have only just discovered this author - read Sick Puppy and couldn't put it down. Quirky characters and ridiculous plots - I love it!

I love Hiaasen's stuff. My favourite is Skinny Dip, but I've read all his older stuff several times. Must see if there's anything new out! The latest I have is Nature Girl.

I've just started The Magicians Guild by Trudi Canavan. It's the first I've read by her, and so far seems to be really good. (As the name suggests it's a fantasy novel)

I've just got hold of the last part of George RR Martin's mutli parter. The rest have been fantastic, so I'm itching to get into this one - HUGE book though!.

I also have 2 Discworld novels from Christmas, which I guess are 3rd and 4th in line.

Finally I have VOX from the Edge Chronicles - The problem is, it's the second novel in a trilogy, so that will have to wait until I get hold of the first one!

For those who aren't fussy about filtering what I sell - Take a look at ALL my stuff above. - But for more specific listings, take a peek in the stores below.

TOY-PALLOI - For all sorts of traditional playthings!

THE PAPERBOYS PLEASURE - For Books & Magazines

    OUT ON THE FLOOR - For Records - (mainly 1950's - 60's)

    VIEWPOINT - Photographic Equipment

THE SCRAPYARD - Spare parts for old cars and bikes

I have just decided to re-visit an old friend - I am reading Friday's Child by Georgette Heyer.
Of course I have read it before like I have all my Georgette Heyers but when I feel the need for some stress relief I keep going back to them.

I'm reading "For Us, the Living", the first novel written by Robert Heinlein. He wrote it in 1939 and it wasn't published until 2004! That story alone is incredible. No one would publish it when he wrote it, and he discarded the manuscript. After his death, it was learned that a friend had been given a copy. It was eventually located, having passed through two other people, and stored in a box in a garage.

It's not as well-written as his later work, and the plot is razor-thin, but it gave him the framework to describe his vision of the U.S. in the year 2086. It's fascinating to read, especially considering when it was written. His political predictions were not accurate, but his vision of what science was going to accomplish were right on. The only thing he misjudged was the timing; we have many of those inventions right now (such as the internet and microwave ovens). The fascinating section is the middle, where he dissects the modern economic system pretty thoroughly. I'm going to reread his idea of how economics should work, I think it's going to take me some time to figure it out exactly. If he's right, though, all this deficit spending to stop a world-wide recession is not going to saddle our descendants with huge debts. If you can get your hands on a copy, I strongly recommend it . . . even if you don't like science fiction.
