Maybe, but sadly the late, great Douglas Adams can't explain why:

In the bit at the bottom of this entry there is a note which says

"Many chatbots will respond to being asked what the meaning of life is with 42"

I can verify this because I have asked several chatbots this question and they did indeed all give me the answer "42"

I need to get out more

One fact I know about the Hubble telescope is that it uses lots of mirrors - these where never actually tested out together on the earth. So very early on (it is now apparently 19 years old) a repair team had to go up to re-adjust the mirrors. After that the pictures it sent back where a whole lot better.

Just goes to show these scientists can be a daft as us mere morals. I still wish the astronauts up there the best, sincerely hope they don't need the rescue shuttle which is on standby - just incase.

I also wonder what is going to be the next type of spacecraft designed. It is not very long till all the shuttles are due to be retired.

The Mirrors, I believe that was not an accident,
The scientists were told they needed to get out more.
So they got Nasa to pay for an out of this world holiday.

Yeah. The primary mirror was the wrong shape by an amount that is incomprehensible to us but was enough to mess the whole thing up.

Luckily it was so accurately out of shape they effectively gave the telescope a pair of glasses to correct the aberration.

They did have spare mirrors the right shape but they could not be fitted in orbit and it was too expensive to recover the telescope and bring it back to Earth for repair.

I have a hard time accepting the expence of space, as long as there is an illness that can't be cured, or a hungry person that can't be fed, or people without a home
